Lamaze Jacques The Peacock – Keep Your Baby Happy With A Developmental
Toy
The Lamaze Jacques the Peacock educational toy will keep your baby occupied and happy
wherever he/she may be. Ideally Jacques will be placed above the cot or crib but it can also go just about anywhere
as your baby gets older. Clip it onto his/her high chair at dinner time or baby car seat when you are running an
errand. Jacques will soon become your baby's best friend but he will be doing so much more than that.
Jacques is known as a play and grow toy under the Lamaze range of Toys.
These are fine toys that will occupy your baby's time but they also facilitate the development of your baby's key
senses.
The toy is designed to test and develop your baby's vision, hearing and sense of touch. When a baby is
first born, these senses need to be developed. This is a bit like calibrating a measuring or recording device. In
fact, the hands, eyes and ears are exactly that – human forms of measuring and recording devices.
For instance, a baby will first see in black and white. Only after a few days will the eye begin to perceive
color.
This is where Jacques comes into the picture. Jacques is your stereotypical peacock. He
likes to show off his feathers. In this case his feathers are made of varying textures, colors and patterns. They
may look a bit strange to you and me, but to a baby they are fascinating yet do not put too much strain on new
eyes. There are different colors and even black and white patterns. They will help you baby's eyes transition to
full color vision. A mirror and large dark eyes can teach the baby's eyes to focus and develop awareness.
Also on the feathers, are three devices that will work out your Baby's auditory senses. There is a rattle, a
squeaker and crinkle maker. By pushing these devices the sounds will be emitted. Either the parents can push these
devices or the baby can did it as he/she gets older.
Finally the soft fabrics, mainly velor, have different textures that that your baby will be able to reach out
and touch. These textures will help develop the awareness of touch through the hands and even other parts of the
body if Jacques is hugged or held close.
Lamaze toys are made by the Learning Curve company after research into baby and infant learning toys. There is
now a decent range of toys that all represent some kind of animal but have learning and developmental aspects to
their design. The Lamaze name was no doubt inspired by the famous French obstetrician Dr. Fernand Lamaze who
pioneered various childbirth techniques in the 1940's and highlights the collaboration with the Lamaze Organisation
in developing this this toy and many others.
